Big Lonely Doug. West Coast of south Vancouver Island. -*"Big Lonely Doug is a large Coastal Douglas Fir tree located in the Gordon River Valley of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is the second largest Douglas Fir in Canada after the Red Creek Fir in nearby San Juan Valley" *Wikipedia. -This area is also home to some of the last intact coastal temperate rainforests on southern Vancouver Island. The nearby intact watershed of Fairy Creek has sparked protests and blockades in response to the proposed clearcutting within that neighbouring watershed. These protests and blockades which began at the end of August 2020 have been ongoing for over a year at the time of this writing. They have widened to include multiple blockades of other intact forests in the region and have now totalled approximately 1000 people arrested, recently overtaking the 1993 Clayoquot Sound protests as the largest civil disobedience campaign in Canadian history.
