While travelling along the Liard River with an extended family of Dene on their annual fall moose hunt I can across the scene. The Liard River winds back and forth across the border that divided British Columbia and the Northwest Territories and is the highway to the many traditional hunting grounds of the Slavey people of the region and which form a part of the Dene People. As I raced along the shores of the Liard River searching for an image in the fading twilight, I almost tripped and then saw this subject at my feet. The blue light of the shadows and the rounded forms of these glacial rocks said more about this landscape than the more encompassing image I had planned.
